The Archdiocese of Las Vegas has received notification from the Diocese of Santa Rosa in California of the involuntary laicization of Mr. Adam Kotas, formerly of the Diocese of Santa Rosa, who briefly served in Las Vegas.

The Rite of Election took place in Las Vegas on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2024, with Archbishop George Leo Thomas, Ph.D., presiding over the Rite of Election.

Archbishop George Leo Thomas, Ph.D., celebrated the Pastoral installation of Fr. Jea Sik Park at St. Paul Jung Ha Sun on February 18. The Mass is a formal celebration of the installation of a Pastor at the Parish. 

Love was in the air as the Archdiocese of Las Vegas celebrated a special Jubilee Mass at Guardian Angel Cathedral, just in time for Valentine's Day. The special celebration was for couples who have reached significant milestones in their marriages, marking 10, 25, 50, or other noteworthy Catholic wedding anniversaries.

La Virgen de Guadalupe in Mesquite, Nevada gathered on December 10, 2023, to celebrate the second Sunday of Advent and the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The highlight of the weekend was the 10 a.m. Mass was celebrated by Archbishop George Leo Thomas, Ph.D., and concelebrated by Fr. Joji Vincent, the Parochial Administrator which brought an extra level of solemnity and celebration.

The 2023 Session of the Synod on Synodality released the Synthesis Report on Saturday, Oct. 28. Archbishop George Leo Thomas, Ph.D., Archbishop of Las Vegas, has issued the following statement on the document published by the Assembly.

On October 16, 2023, the Apostolic Nuncio to the United States of America and personal representative of Our Holy Father Pope Francis, Christophe Cardinal Pierre, will be in Las Vegas for the imposition of the Pallium on Archbishop George Leo Thomas, Ph.D. and to formally acknowledge the Canonical Establishment of the Archdiocese of Las Vegas. This will take place during a special Mass at the Shrine of the Most Holy Redeemer at 2 p.m. (PST). Cardinal Pierre was recently appointed to the College of Cardinals during a Consistory where the creation of 21 new Cardinals took place in St. Peter's Square at the Vatican on September 30, 2023.

The Archdiocese of Las Vegas came together on September 8th and 9th for the 2023 Archdiocesan Conference. Hosted at the Orleans Hotel and Casino, this two-day event was a testament to faith, community, and learning, bringing Catholics from all walks of life together. With the theme "Self-Giving Love/Entregarse Con Amor” attendees embarked on a spiritual journey that left them inspired and connected.

As the new school year is about to start, a unique journey of faith and learning is about to continue as summer gives way to fall. Seminarians, those men studying for the priesthood, are preparing to return to their respective seminaries. The Adrian Dominican Congregation celebrates the dedication and commitment of 38 Sisters who in 2023 mark their Jubilees, their milestone years of service and dedication to the Church and the Congregation. The 2023 Jubilee Class includes Sister Mary Suzanne (Michael Kathleen) Kennedy, OP, a native of Toledo, Ohio, is celebrating 60 years of religious life who spent time in Las Vegas at St. Jospeh School.

On June 29, 2023, Pope Francis welcomed 32 new Archbishops from 19 countries for a special Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican for the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, including Archbishop George Leo Thomas, Ph.D., Archbishop of Las Vegas. During this special Mass, the pallium was blessed by Pope Francis and presented to the new Archbishops after Mass. The special Mass, attended by bishops, clergy, and faithful from around the world, marked a significant milestone in the journey of Archbishop Thomas and the elevation of the Diocese of Las Vegas to the status of a Metropolitan Archdiocese.

Archbishop George Leo Thomas, Ph.D., of the newly elevated Archdiocese of Las Vegas, will be in Rome to receive a special liturgical vestment from Pope Francis called the Pallium on June 29, in Rome, on the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul.

On May 24, 2023 the Archdiocesan Restoration Advisory Council (Advisory Council) and its medical consultants advised us that it is now possible to offer the reception of Communion under both species in all of our parishes across the Archdiocese.

Pope Francis has created the Archdiocese of Las Vegas and named the Most Reverend George Leo Thomas, Ph.D., as the first Metropolitan Archbishop of Las Vegas.

Michael Williams, a native of Ely, Nevada, was ordained a Catholic Deacon on Thursday, May 25th, at 6 pm at Sacred Heart Parish. The Mass of Ordination was celebrated by Bishop Gregory W. Gordon, Auxiliary Bishop of Las Vegas.
