Letter to the Archdiocese of Las Vegas regarding Mr. Adam Kotas

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

The Archdiocese of Las Vegas has received notification from the Diocese of Santa Rosa in California of the involuntary laicization of Mr. Adam Kotas, formerly of the Diocese of Santa Rosa, who briefly served in Las Vegas. This process was handled through the Diocese of Santa Rosa, where Mr. Kotas was incardinated as a priest. This laicization was approved by His Holiness, Pope Francis and has no possibility of appeal.

Laicization means that all rights and privileges associated with the priesthood have been removed, and that the individual has returned to the lay state. Although the Sacrament of Holy Orders imprints an indelible character on the soul of the priest which empowers him to administer the sacraments, the laicized priest is prohibited from celebrating Mass or the other sacraments. Moreover, Mr. Kotas is prohibited from using the title "Father" (referring to a Catholic priest) or wearing clerical attire.

Adam Kotas is no longer a priest in the Catholic Church.

All sacraments celebrated by Mr. Kotas in the “Polish National Church” are presumed to be either invalid or illicit by the Catholic Church, and anything done by Mr. Kotas following his laicization are considered invalid or illicit by the Catholic Church.

Any questions regarding the validity or liceity of sacraments which Mr. Kotas has attempted may be directed to the Tribunal Office of the Archdiocese of Las Vegas.

Hermanos y hermanas en Cristo,

La Arquidiócesis de Las Vegas recibió una notificación de la Diócesis de Santa Rosa en California sobre la laicización involuntaria del Sr. Adam Kotas, anteriormente de la Diócesis de Santa Rosa, y quien sirvió brevemente en Las Vegas. Este proceso se realizó a través de la Diócesis de Santa Rosa, donde el sr. Kotas fue incardinado como sacerdote. Esta laicización fue aprobada por Su Santidad el Papa Francisco y no tiene posibilidad de apelación.

Laicización significa que todos los derechos y privilegios asociados con el sacerdocio han sido eliminados y que el individuo ha regresado al estado laico. Aunque el Sacramento del Orden Sagrado imprime un carácter indeleble en el alma del sacerdote que le faculta para administrar los sacramentos, al sacerdote laicizado se le prohíbe celebrar la Misa o los demás sacramentos. Además, Sr. Kotas se le prohíbe utilizar el título de "Padre" (en referencia a un sacerdote católico) o vestir vestimenta clerical.

Adam Kotas no es sacerdote en la Iglesia Católica.

Todos los sacramentos celebrados por el Sr. Kotas en la “Iglesia Nacional Polaca” se presumen inválidos o ilícitos por la Iglesia Católica, y cualquier cosa hecha por el Sr. Kotas después de su laicización se considera inválida o ilícita por la Iglesia Católica.

Cualquier pregunta sobre la validez o licitud de los sacramentos que el Sr. Kotas haya intentado puede dirigirse a la Oficina del Tribunal de la Arquidiócesis de Las Vegas.
