JOB TITLE: Archdiocesan Assistant Director for Youth and Young Adult Ministry
REPORTS TO: Archdiocesan Director of Faith Formation FLSA: Full time; Exempt Employee
GENERAL SUMMARY: The principal function of the Archdiocesan Coordinator for Youth and Young Adult Ministries will be to collaborate with the Archdiocesan Faith Formation Staff and Directors and Coordinators for Parish Youth Ministries, the Archbishop of Las Vegas, and the Pastors of parishes and provide support as they strive to respond to the needs of young people in their local communities. (Youth and Young Adults will be described as Middle School aged teens and pre-teens, High School aged teens, and young adults to about age 35.)
The Archdiocesan Assistant Director for Youth and Young Adult Ministries works under and in collaboration with the Archdiocesan Director of Faith Formation in extending the ministry of the Bishop, with parish Directors and Coordinators for Youth Ministry, to "respond to the needs of young people and to involve young people in sharing their unique gifts with the larger community" (Renewing the Vision, pg 9). To accomplish this task the person in this position must have demonstrated competence in applying the standards of comprehensive youth ministry and the goals of ministry with adolescents as outlined by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishop's 1997 document Renewing the Vision: a framework for Catholic youth ministry.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Serve as the primary resource and point of contact for all Youth and Young Adult Ministries in the parishes of the Archdiocese.
Follow and implement all archdiocesan guidelines in work with youth and young adults.
Develop and maintain a budget for Archdiocesan Youth and Young Adult Ministry.
Engage local parish youth coordinators and directors in youth ministry consultation.
Develop opportunities for training in youth ministry with sensitivity to full-time, part-time, and volunteer ministry positions.
Collaborate with priests and pastors and serve as a resource when requested.
Serve as an advocate for youth, young adults, and youth ministers at diocesan, extra-diocesan, or related gatherings.
Work collaboratively with various Archdiocesan offices in mutual efforts of ministry and jointly sponsored projects, including but not limited to: the Office of the Bishop, the Office of Finance, the Office of General Counsel, Social Action Ministry, the Office of Vocations, Hispanic Ministry, etc..
Work collaboratively with the USCCB, and movements outside the Archdiocese of Las Vegas, particularly in Region XI, that promote and practice the goals as outlined in RNV and empower directors and coordinators of parish youth ministry to do the same.
Vision, create, develop, facilitate, and evaluate Archdiocesan programs that aim to reach, evangelize, and catechize youth and young adults throughout the diocese being sensitive to the multi-cultural climate of our youth and young adults, such as a Diocesan High School Youth Rally, Middle School Rally, Young Adult events, etc.
Coordinate visits from extra- Archdiocesan entities/groups/individuals that are invited by the Archbishop and contracted with the Archdiocese to evangelize youth and young adults or train directors and coordinators in youth ministry, such as National Federation of Catholic Youth Ministers (NFCYM), National Evangelization Team (NET) etc.
Collaborate with Catholic Schools and Campus Ministry at secular schools to reach, evangelize, and catechize youth and young adults and support the ministry staff in their efforts to do so.
Coordinate and promote Archdiocesan sponsored retreat experiences for youth, young adults, and directors/coordinators of youth ministry. Such as the Annual Archdiocesan Conference and staff development day, National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC), World Youth Day (WYD), National Conference on Catholic Youth Ministry (NCCYM), etc.
Collaborate with parishes that have sacramental preparation as part of their comprehensive youth ministry program and support the needs of the parishes as they prepare youth and young adults for reception of the sacraments according to Archdiocesan guidelines.
Regularly engage in personal development, spiritual growth, theological study, prayer, works of charity, and professional development.
Other duties as assigned by the Archdiocesan Director of Faith Formation, the Auxiliary Bishop or the Archbishop.
Regular and reliable attendance.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
BA in Theology, Ministry, Administration, or other related field; MA in Theology, Ministry, Religious Education, or other related field preferred.
Minimum five years of successful experience leading and directing comprehensive Youth Ministry programs and events at ONE parish.
Excellent PC skills especially in Microsoft Office, Photoshop, Social Media Outlets, and general website skills. MAC literate with knowledge of Pro-Presenter preferred.
Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
Demonstrate excellent skills in oral and written communication.
Strong organizational skills in leadership and time management. Ability to see the large vision and to manage the details in a timely manner. Ability to meet deadlines as directed.
Knowledge of major Church documents related to youth and young adults, evangelization, and catechesis.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work hours are typically from Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm, but may require a shift to accommodate occasional evening and weekend availability to support parish events and activities. This position requires driving, sitting, standing for extended periods of time as well as regular attendance in the office as well as other Archdiocesan functions outside of the office. This person is responsible for the effective planning, coordination, and execution of music within the liturgical celebrations and life of the Parish community. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 1) MANAGEMENT Attend staff meetings as well as workshops, retreats, and other trainings as needed or requested
Supervise staff and ensure they follow established procedures regarding work punctuality, assigned breaks, clocking in and out, overtime, etc.

2) DIRECT CHOIRS/MUSIC
Serve as primary accompanist for all weekend and other major celebrations, including weddings, funerals, baptisms, quincenaras, etc.
Audition, train, and supervise all choir members, instrumentalists and cantors
Lead choirs, instrumentalists and the assembly at liturgies and/or delegate this responsibility to other qualified persons as needed
Recruit, motivate, train and supervise all paid and volunteer parish music ministers
Provide leadership in areas related to liturgical music, (e.g., select and develop worship aids for the congregation; select and maintain working order of musical instruments; coordinate services and schedules of parish musicians)
Assure copyright permission of music utilized; maintain library of musical compositions; proof Solo book for Choir rehearsals; mark music for musicians/cantors and coordinate music for performance/rehearsals
Provide ongoing formation for cantors, choirs, and instrumentalists
Determine the parish music repertoire for all liturgies (including, but not limited to, Sundays, Holy Days, weddings, funerals, sacraments, and other parish events)
Provide music (either personally or through stipend volunteers) for all Masses, sacramental celebrations, worship services, funerals, weddings, baptisms, special events, etc. as needed or requested
Personally meet with couples to select music for weddings

3) LITURGY COMMITTEE
Serve as an active member of the Parish Liturgy Committee

4) SPECIAL EVENTS
Collaborate on special events with other departments/school as needed or requested (e.g. Living Stations, Parish mission, Advent Concert; Taize Prayer; All Souls remembrance, installations, May Crowning, graduation, Archdiocesan Conference, Chrism Mass, or other archdiocesan events, etc.)
Schedule cantors and instrumentalists for the monthly TV Mass tapings
Plan, coordinate, execute, and direct an annual musical entertainment/or sacred reflective event for the Parish
Work with PA for Stewardship and Communication to publicize special events as needed
In collaboration with the Pastor and Director of Music, plan and conduct annual ongoing formation for all liturgical ministers
5) SCHOOL RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare school choir for weekly school Mass
Work with student lectors; greeters)
Help coordinate para-liturgical services (i.e. Jesse Tree, May Crowning, Lenten Stations of the Cross, reconciliation services, etc.)
Work with teachers and Youth Ministry staff on school retreats
Help prepare days of reflection
6) EQUIPMENT
Oversee sound system and all equipment associated with the sound system
Ensure working order of all musical equipment/instruments (i.e. piano tuning)
Work with lighting and sound technician to ensure proper sound quality for services, special events, etc.

Clean, sweep, mop and vacuum offices twice a week
Clean, sweep, mop and vacuum nurses station twice a week or as needed
Clean, sweep and mop lunchroom nightly
Wipe down tables in parish hall classrooms as needed
Provide coverage as janitor/porter at church as needed or requested
Clean, sanitize, mop and stock all rest rooms nightly
Spray down outside of dumpsters and inside of garbage cans as needed
Maintain cleanliness and functionality of ES work areas and equipment, including loading dock and courtyard.
Regular walk through of facilities to proactively assess parish properties/equipment and identify areas needing attention and preventive maintenance; report to supervisor
Collect and dispose of trash daily or as needed
Clean glass doors leading into school weekly
Daily walk around campus to assure that grounds/walkways are maintained in a clean and safe manner (sweep, remove hazards, etc.)
Assist with blow through and powerwashing in school as needed
For school games: turn on gym lights; open doors to rooms 1-2 if needed for concessions; close/lock PPVI and SJXXIII classrooms; check bathrooms between games; dispose trash
Notify supervisor of supplies needed to effectively complete work responsibilities
Disinfect door handles, switches, bathrooms, statues, etc. on a regular basis and ensure hand sanitizers are filled
Polish/clean statues, Stations of the Cross, and fixtures, etc. periodically
Assist taking/retrieving items from storage units as needed or requested
Shampoo carpets in classrooms as needed
Knock out dust from classroom rugs as needed
Maintain and organization of janitorial closets and let supervisor know when supplies are low
4) SET UPS
Perform room set-ups, break-downs, and clean-ups of tables, chairs, and equipment as requested/needed
Ensure quick turn around of rooms as needed to accommodate ministries and programs
Set up of student assembly room as needed for Confirmation classes
Set up barricades in parking lot for Faith Formation on Tuesday/Thursday afternoons and for school everyday
Assist with set ups of major parish and school events (i.e. BooBash, Christmas, Easter, etc.)
5) SAFETY
Assist with bio-hazard spills and emergencies as needed or requested
Properly clean and safely store all equipment and supplies (i.e. paint, flammable liquids, chemicals, cleaning fluids, etc.)
Knowledgeable and compliant with OSHA safety and health rules
Wipe up any spills that cause a slipping hazard and mark appropriately
Place and secure mats at church/hall entrances to avoid slipping in the event of rain
Provide for the health and safety of all
6) SECURITY
Open, close, and alarm parish/school facilities as scheduled (including holidays)
Be aware of unauthorized personnel and willing to assist as needed or requested
