Political discourse must never be stained by bloodshed. As Catholics, we are called to uphold the dignity of every person, created in the image of God, and to build communities rooted in peace and respect. At this painful moment, we must recommit ourselves to dialogue over diatribe, to listening rather than shouting, and to seeking common ground without resorting to violence.
There is no place in our society for acts of hatred or aggression. We pray for the repose of Mr. Kirk’s soul, for the consolation of his grieving family, and for a renewed spirit of peace and reconciliation in our nation.
