SR. BARBARA E. REID, OP

Sr. Barbara E. Reid, O.P. is a Dominican Sister of Grand Rapids, Michigan and is President Emerita and Carroll Stuhlmueller, CP, Distinguished Professor of New Testament Studies at Catholic Theological Union. She holds a Ph.D. in Biblical Studies from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., an M.A. in Religious Studies from Aquinas College, and a B.A. from Aquinas College with a major in Spanish. She taught Spanish and Religion at St.Mary Cathedral High School in Saginaw, Michigan, before pursuing doctoral studies. She has taught at Catholic Theological Union since 1988, served as Vice President and Academic Dean from 2009-2018, and as president from 2021–2025. A highlight during her time as President was to attend the consistory in September 2023, at which then Bishop Robert Prevost, OSA, was made Cardinal, and then to attend his installation Mass as Pope Leo XIV in May 2025. Sr. Barbara has led many study tours and retreats in the Holy Lands: Israel, the Palestinian Territories, Greece, Turkey, and Egypt. She has been privileged to lecture in many countries around the world. She is the author of more than a dozen books and numerous articles, including Parables for Preachers (3 volumes; Liturgical Press, 1999-2001), Taking Up the Cross. New Testament Interpretations Through Latina and Feminist Eyes (Fortress, 2007), Wisdom’s Feast. An Invitation to Feminist Interpretation of the Scriptures (Eerdmans, 2016), At the Table of Holy Wisdom. Global Hungers and Feminist Biblical Interpretation (Paulist, 2023), and the two-volume commentary on the Gospel of Luke that she co-authored with Prof. Shelly Matthews in the Wisdom Commentary series (Liturgical Press, 2021; see wisdomcommentary.org), for which she is also General Editor. As well, she is one of the General Editors for the new Jerome Biblical Commentary for the Twenty-first Century (Bloomsbury Press, 2022).

Reid, O.P., es una Hermana Dominica de Grand Rapids, Michigan, y es Presidenta Emérita y Profesora Distinguida Carroll Stuhlmueller, CP de Estudios del Nuevo Testamento en la Union Católica de Teología en Chicago. Posee un doctorado en Estudios Bíblicos de La Universidad Católica de América en Washington, D.C., una maestría en Estudios Religiosos de Aquinas College y una licenciatura de Aquinas College con especialización en español. Enseñó español y religión en la escuela segundaria de la Catedral de Santa Maria en Saginaw, Michigan, antes de emprender estudios doctorales. Ha enseñado en la Union Católica de Teología desde 1988, se desempeñó como Vicepresidenta y Decana Académica de 2009 a 2018, y como presidenta de 2021 a 2025. Un momento destacado durante su tiempo como presidenta fue asistir al consistorio en septiembre de 2023 en el que el entonces obispo Robert Prevost, OSA, fue creado cardenal, y luego asistir a su misa de instalación como el Papa León XIV en mayo de 2025.
La Hna. Barbara ha dirigido numerosos viajes de estudio y retiros en Tierra Santa: Israel, los Territorios Palestinos, Grecia, Turquía y Egipto. Ha tenido el privilegio de impartir conferencias en muchos países alrededor del mundo. Es autora de más de una docena de libros y numerosos artículos, entre ellos Las parabolas: predicando las y viviéndolas (3 volúmenes; Liturgical Press, 1999-2001), Reconsiderar la cruz: Interpretación latinoamericana y feminista del Nuevo Testamento (Verbo Divino, 2009), El banquete de la Sabiduría: Una invitación a la interpretación feminista de la Escritura  (Verbo Divino, 2020), y el comentario en dos volúmenes sobre el Evangelio de Lucas que coescribió con la Prof. Shelly Matthews en la serie Wisdom Commentary (Liturgical Press, 2021; véase wisdomcommentary.org), de la cual también es Editora General.
