The Archdiocese of Las Vegas Celebrates Pope Leo XIV
Learn MoreLas Vegas (April 23, 2024) — During the Liturgical Season of Easter in Las Vegas, Confirmation season is in full swing. Numerous Parishes are taking this time to welcome Archbishop George Leo Thomas, Ph.D., Auxiliary Bishop Gregory W. Gordon, and Retired Bishop Richard Higgins as they preside over Confirmation Mass, imparting the Holy Spirit upon the faithful. In the Archdiocese of Las Vegas, the Confirmation Classes have ranged from 10 to over 200.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church describes the Sacrament of Confirmation saying, "For by the Sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit."
During the Rite of Confirmation, the Archbishop or Bishop prays over those to be Confirmed, and individually anoints the forehead of each Confirmand with Sacred Chrism and says, "Be Sealed with the Gifts of the Holy Spirit." Finally, the Archbishop or Bishop initiates the Sign of Peace which concludes the Rite and symbolizes communion between the newly Confirmed, the Faithful and the Church.
