LAS VEGAS (Dec. 15, 2025) — Archbishop George Leo Thomas, Ph.D. and Bishop Gregory W. Gordon of the Archdiocese of Las Vegas have issued the following statement following the shooting at Bondi Beach in Australia during Hanukkah celebrations:
The Catholic Community of the Archdiocese of Las Vegas joins in prayer and solidarity with our Jewish neighbors and friends who are suffering, following a terrible and senseless act of violence in Australia at the beginning of Hanukkah.
This moment calls us to deepen our solidarity, to stand firmly against hatred in all its forms, and to renew our shared commitment to defending the dignity of every human person.
As we observe the sacred seasons of Hanukkah and Christmas, we are reminded that light overcomes darkness and that hope prevails over fear.
Please accept our love, our sympathy, and our friendship during these difficult hours.
